He worked at Dairyman's Supply Company from 1938 – 1982. He served in various roles including sales, Vice President, and President. His employment at DSC was interrupted by World War II when he was called to serve in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater from 1942 – 1945.
He was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Mayfield for the past 82 years. There he humbly served as a Deacon, Sunday School Director and Teacher, and Choir Member among countless other roles. He drew great delight in serving his Savior and others.
He was highly active in various community services and organizations including the Mayfield Masonic Lodge No. 369. He has been recognized for his selfless dedication to serving widows and the elderly in this community. He also received the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Chamber of Commerce and the Fancy Farm Picnic Pioneer Award.
He is survived by his wife of 77 years, Betty Belote Cook. Also, surviving are their four children: George Dean Cook, Jr. (Mary Milan) of Inverness, Fla, John Timothy Cook (Pam) of Mayfield, Nancy Cook Stahr (Bill) of Cape Girardeau, Mo, and Caroline Cook Jones (Liz) of Bridgman, Mich. He has 11 grandchildren: Mary Catherine Cook, Matthew Cook, Andrew Cook, Kim Cook Adams Hogancamp, Kerri Beth Cook Sutla, David Stahr, Stephen Stahr, Eric Jones, Nickolas Jones, Ruth Jennifer Beckhorn, and Elizabeth Walker. He has 28 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Vancoy and Ruth (Boyd) Cook,
3 brothers: LG Cook, John Ellis Cook, and J.V. Cook, Jr.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 23 from 4:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. at Byrn Funeral Home in Mayfield.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, June 24 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Mayfield with Brother Wes Fowler officiating.
Pall bearers will be his grandsons.
Entombment will follow at Highland Park Mausoleum in Mayfield.
