Walter E. Lipe
(November 1, 1922 - December 28, 2013)

Walter Ezra Lipe (Nov. 1, 1922 – Dec. 28, 2013) went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on the morning of December 28, 2013, after a long and happy life filled with music and laughter with family and friends. He was saved in 1954 and joined Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church where he remained a life-long member and was a Deacon for over 50 years. He was also a frequent visitor at Maple Hill and several other churches.

He was preceded in death by parents Ervin and Laura (Deskins) Lipe, sister Gladys Lipe, brother Wilfred (Dick) Lipe, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

He is survived by his wife Clara Louise (Henegar) Lipe; sister Ann Thomas; brother Marvin (Nooge) Lipe; children Lois Chafin and husband Denny, Virgil Lipe and wife Carol, Janice Skipper and husband Charles (Chuck), Velma Mann and husband Jerry, Archie Lipe and wife Linda, and Marvin Lipe; grandchildren Vakisha Henard, Beth Morgan, Lou Delph, Terry and Tim Mann, Wendy Arnold, Daniel and Brian Chafin, Gabrielle, Genevieve, and Nathaniel Skipper, Laura Pearson, Alex Lipe, Travis Lipe, Amber Suthers; great-grandchildren Cody, Damon, and Katelyn Arnold, Duskin and Walt Henard, Luke and Ryan Morgan, Alyssa Smith, and Leah Lipe; grandchildren-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and many more who are considered family.

Half of the community called him "Papaw," and he called them "grandchildren by love." His family is thankful for all of his caretakers and especially Teresa Collins, Heather Cross, and Lou Delph.

During World War II, he proudly served as Corporal in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served in the newly-formed 357th bomb squadron. After many training stops, the unit finally arrived at Guam where it joined the 20th Air Force which helped to end WWII by dropping two atomic bombs in Japan. His 331st bomb group received the distinguished unit commendation for performance during this time. He is greatly missed, but he waits for you in heaven.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, December 30, 2013 at Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church, interment will follow in Dean Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Tennessee National Guard and the Hawkins County Color Guard. The family will receive friends Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Colboch-Price Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
