Rites for longtime school bus driver Mary Mayfield are today in GP
Services for Mary Mayfield, a longtime school bus driver & crossing guard near Rayburn Elem School in Grand Prairie, will be at 2 p. Monday at Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home in Grand Prairie.
Burial will follow at Southland Memorial Park in Grand Prairie.
Mrs Mayfield, 73, died Saturday at Dallas-Fort Worth Medical Center.
Mrs. Mayfield, who was raised in farming communities near Waco, worked as a school crossing guard for the Grand Prairie & Dallas Police Dept each morning and afternoon for the last seven years. She ushered children at the intersection of Southeast Eighth St & Cielo Vista Drive until she became ill in November.
Before working as a crossing guard, Mrs. Mayfield was a bus driver with the the Grand Prairie & Dallas school districts for 17 years.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Grand Prairie.
Mrs. Mayfield is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Youngblood of Dallas; seven sisters, Mamie Leftwich of Hewitt, Texas, Ola Mae LaRue of San Antonio, Barbara Inram of Valley Mills, Texs, Tranquillla Malone of Birmingtham, Ala., and Florene Roberts, Frances White & Alma Flemmons, all of Waco; and two grandchildren.
