JOHN ALEXANDER CRUBAUGH

John A. was born on October 21, 1870, at Lebanon, Indiana, the third child of James Wilson and Mary Jane (Hookersmith) Crubaugh. He was a grandson of William and Beulah (Venerable) Crubaugh. His older siblings were Emma A. and Joseph W.
On two occasions, John was enumerated in his father's household during the Census: In 1870, in Marion Township, Boone County, Indiana, and in Old Town Town-ship, Mclean County, Illinois, in 1880.
John was married to Cora Ellen Thompson by the year of 1898. Cora, a native of Illinois, and a daughter of native Illinois parents, was born on January 26, 1880. Her father was Lee Thompson, and her mother was Sarah Mason.
John and Ella became parents of four children. Their first son, James Randolph, lived less than one year. Their first daughter, Virgie Mae, was born on June 7, 1899, in Randolph Township, McLean County, Illinois. Cleve Vance, their third child, was born on May 17, 1905, at Hayworth, in De Witt County, Illinois. Helen Lorraine was born on February 17, 1914, at Clinton, DeWitt County, Illinois, where her parents were residing at 412 E. Douglas Street.
On January 20, 1917, Virgie M. Crubaugh was married to Robert Bruce Linton, at Clinton. The J.P. was Mary Phares. The witnesses were Mrs. Esther Thompson and Mrs. Cecil Lane.
Cleve Vance was married to Goldie Alena Hunter on May 31, 1924, at Clinton, IL. Helen L. Crubaugh was married to Cecil G. Walden on December 13, 1930. The wedding at Clinton was witnessed by Edna Trabaugh and Meg Walden.
Cora Ellen Crubaugh, wife of John A., passed away at her home at 418 E. Woodlawn on May 17, 1934. She was 54 years, 3 months, and 21 days old. The cause of death was attributed to diabetes, which she had for the last three years. Interment was on May 19, 1934, in the Woodlawn Cemetery, at Clinton, Illinois.
John A. Crubaugh died at home on January 14, 1937. He was 65 years, 2 months, and 24 days old. He had suffered from chronic nephritis since 1935. He had worked as a laborer for more than 40 years, but the last time in 1934. The informant was Mrs. Cecil Walden, of Bloomington, Illinois. He was buried next to his wife, Cora Ellen, in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Clinton.
The Cemetery headstone is inscribed with the dates of 1871-1937. 1871 is not correct. John was enumerated as an infant in his father's household during the 1870 Census.

Note: (not in book)
The John enumerated in the 1870 census was not John Alexander Crubaugh. It was John E. Mays, son of a domestic servant. John Alexander is listed as 9 years old in the 1880 census.
