Port Barre-- A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:45 a.m. on Monday, November 11, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre for Mrs. Vera Mae Basco Nezat. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Rev. Daniel Picard will celebrate the Mass.

Mrs. Vera was a native of Gorum and long-time resident of Port Barre, LA. She passed away on Friday, November 8, 2013, at her home at the age of 79. She worked in the Port Barre High School Cafeteria for 18 years. She was a member of the Port Barre Quilting Guild and the Ladies' Rosary Group. She was a devout Catholic who attended Mass regularly and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Stanwood Nezat of Port Barre; two sons, Stanwood "Rascal" Nezat, Jr. and wife, Bobbie; Steven Craig Nezat and wife, Lyndia; two daughters, Melissa Stanford and husband, James; and Michelle Pitre and husband, Keith, all of Port Barre; three brothers, James "Jay" Basco and wife, Bobbie Joyce of Pineville; Frank Basco and wife, Mary Joyce of Gorum; and Alton Basco and wife, Mary Ann of Morrow; two sisters, Annette Verdino and husband, Ed of Opelousas; and Susie Barlow of Pineville; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie Basco and Mary White Basco; two brothers and six sisters.

A Rosary service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday morning in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Mass will immediately follow in the church.
