Obituary of Mrs. Agnes Markel

It was with sincere sorrow that the sad news was received Monday evening that Mrs. Agnes Markel, widow of Robert markel, had passed away. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John H. Sheaffer, on West Main street, this place at four o'clock Monday evening, May 29, 1939, after only one week's illness, death resulting from the infirmities of old age, although she had been in remarkably good health up until her last illness. She was aged 88 years, 8 months and 4 days.

Mrs. Markel was a daughter of Henry and Hannah (Yockey) Burkepile, deceased, former residents of Pleasant Valley. She and Mr. Markel were married September 12, 1960. They resided in Pleasant Valley until the year 1906, when they took up their residence in Bloomfield. Mr. Markel died in 1921.

Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. John H. Sheaffer, of Bloomfield; four grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren; also, one sister, Mrs. D. F. Worthington, of Charleroi, Pennsylvania; a step-sister, Mrs. John Vance, of Eshcol (Pennsylvania) and a step-brother, John Rush, of Schuykill county.

The deceased was a member of the United Brethren Church. She was a good Christian woman and was a most kind and agreeable lady of admirable character and her daughter, Mrs. Sheaffer, has the sympathy of the community in the death of her good mother.

Funeral services were held at the late home of the deceased at two o'clock yesterday afternoon, her pastor, Rev. J. S. Stambach, officiating, and burial was made in the Bloomfield cemetery.
