MRS. MARY E. McCAIN, aged 54, died at her home in Stanton township on December 21st, 1899, and was buried in Bethel Chapel cemetery the 22nd. She had been steadily going down with cancer for months and death was a relief to her. Mrs. McCain was highly respected by all who knew her. - Western Spirit, weekly, Paola, Miami Co. MRS. MARY McCAIN, wife of the late John McCain, died Thursday, Dec. 21, at her home on her farm in Stanton twp., after a lingering illness with cancer. Her age was nearly sixty years. Mrs. McCain came to this county from McLean Co., Ill., about 1863, and since her husband's death, twelve years ago, she successfully managed her farm and raised her family. She suffered much during her long illness, but was concious to the last. She was a faithful Christian, a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian chuch. She leaves a family of five children, three daughters and two sons. The funerawl services, conducted by Rev. Robert Sherar, were held at Spring Ridge church, Saturday monrning, at 10 o'clock. - Miami Republican, weekly, Paola, Miami Co. Kansas, December 29, 1899 - page 3, column 2.
