McCain Rites Today - Funeral rites for Ernest Lewis McCain were held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Farris Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Merle Horner. Mrs. Lutie Livingston sang "Sometime We'll Understand" and "Sweet Bye and Bye". Mrs. Oliver Ewbanks played at the organ. Louis Hoyt, George Hoyt, James Tinsley, Floyd Powell, Lawrence Branton, and Dick Hawkins were pall-bearers. Burial was in the Goodrich cemetery. Ernest Lewis McCain, son of John and Mary McCain was born at Bloomington, Ill., October 3, 1885. He departed this life at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Paul Skillman, Garnett, Kansas, November 2, 1954, at the age of 69 years, 29 days. The early years of his life were lived on the farm in Bloomington, Ill. At the age of 18 he moved to Paola, Kans. where he made his home on a farm. In 1910 he was united in marriage to May Belle Skeens. To this union, four daughters and four sons were born. In 1926, he with his family, moved to Parker, Kansas, where he worked in the orchards. In 1942, he moved to Garnett, where he made his home until the time of this death. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Helen, one son, Ralph, and his wife, May Belle. He leaves to mourn his passing, three daughters, Mrs. Robert Shaw of Tipton, Ind., Mrs. Paul Skillman, of Garnett, Mrs. William Lacy of Tipton, Ind,; Three sons, Paul, of Tipton, Ind., Lonnie of Ottawa Kans., and Wilbur of Garnett, one brother, Frank McCain of Kansas City, one sister, Mrs. Alice Kershner of Paola, 17 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and other relatives and many friends. - The Anderson Countian, Garnett, Kansas, November 11, 1954, page 3, column 1.

Also father to Helen McCain, who died in 1911 at the age of less than one.
