Jerry H. Karel, 86, of Clarkson, Nebraska, died Saturday, September 7, 2013, at the Norfolk Veterans Home in Norfolk, Nebraska.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 10 at 10:30 AM at New Zion Presbyterian Church in Clarkson, with Rev. Cathy Allen officiating. Interment will be in the Clarkson National Cemetery with military honors by the Cornhusker Post 6419 VFW. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Miller Funeral Home and continue on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service on Tuesday at 10:15 AM at the church. Memorials are those of the donor's choice.

Jerry H. Karel was born July 11, 1927, in Stanton County, Nebraska, to Joe and Emma (Mundel) Karel, Sr. Jerry was raised on a farm and attended Stanton County District #52 School. On January 23, 1951, Jerry entered the United States Army 215th Chemical Corps during the Korean War. Jerry was stationed at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin, Fort McClellan, Alabama, and Rocky Mountain Arsenal in Denver, Colorado. On October 21, 1951, while on leave from Camp McCoy, Jerry married Mary Ann Charipar at New Zion Presbyterian Church in Clarkson. Jerry was honorably discharged on January 24, 1953. Jerry farmed north of Leigh and Clarkson until January 1990 when he and Mary Ann moved to Clarkson. Jerry worked for the City of Clarkson for five years and was a caretaker at the High School. Jerry was a member of New Zion Presbyterian Church for over 50 years and a member of ZCBJ for 50 years. He enjoyed mowing lawns, having coffee with his farmer friends, dancing, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Sister – Emily Kratochvil of Arvada, CO
Sisters-in-law – Deloris Karel of Clarkson, NE; and Norma Karel of Lincoln, NE
