Dr. Robert David Crouch, Sr., 88, well-known Frederick urologist, died on Friday, August 16, 2013. He was the husband of Deborah Droneburg Crouch.
Born on February 9, 1925, in Elko, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Horace Johnston Crouch, Sr. and Ettie "Inez" Breazeale Crouch.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War and was a member of the Francis Scott Key American Legion Post #11. He was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church, Frederick. He enjoyed flying, which he began in 1975, and within a year, earned his pilot license. He later earned his instrument rating and then became certified to fly twin-engine aircraft. He continued flying until 2008.
His long career in medicine began with pre-med training at Clemson University, medical school at the Medical College of South Carolina, an internship at Louisville General Hospital in Kentucky, and after his service in Korea, with residency in general surgery and urology at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina. He was especially proud of earning Board Certification in urology in 1961.
Dr. Crouch briefly practiced in Cambridge, Ohio, and Chicago, Illinois. In 1957, he moved to Frederick, where he began his urology practice that continued for 53 years. In 2010, he sold the practice to Frederick Memorial Hospital. During his many years in practice in Frederick, Dr. Crouch was instrumental in bringing advanced technology for treatment of urological conditions to the Frederick area.
