Evelyn Louise Olson was born Oct. 14, 1915, in Highmore, Hyde County, Ree Heights, S.D. She was the daughter of Elroy and Anna (Blaseg) Crackel.
Evelyn was baptized as an infant, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth. She received her education at the country school in Ree Heights, and she worked as a house-keeper, until around 1936, when her family moved to the Nimrod area in Cass County.
On Nov. 6, 1936, Evelyn was united in marriage to Gaylord Olson in Wadena County. This marriage was blessed with one daughter, Joyce. Evelyn and Gaylord resided and farmed in rural Cass County, and Wadena County. They later moved to a farm in rural Nimrod. Evelyn and Gaylord shared 33 years of marriage until Gaylord passed away in July of 1970.
In October of 1982, Evelyn was united in marriage to Ivan "Ike" Borstner of Park Rapids. They resided in their home on Little Mantrap Lake in Park Rapids, until Ike passed away in August of 1988.
Evelyn lived with her sister, Eleanor and brother, Leroy at their home on Lake Kabekona, Laporte, until 2004. She later moved in with her daughter and family in Brownton.
In 2009, when Evelyn needed assistance with her daily care she moved to Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care Center in Glencoe.
Besides being a wonderful wife, mother, homemaker, and baker, Evelyn was a housekeeper from 1971 to 1979 for her brothers. During her years on the farm she belonged to the Sunshine Club, where they sewed quilts, dish towels, did all-kinds of sewing projects and held auctions to raise money for needy families.
She was also employed at Ah-Gwah-Ching Nursing Home in Walker for 11 years, as a cook. She retired Oct. 19, 1980. Evelyn was a member of the Sunshine Club for 25 years.
Evelyn enjoyed dancing, cooking, sewing, traveling, playing cards and fishing. She loved music and flowers. Evelyn was a gentle and kind lady, who was a good cook and enjoyed canning food. She especially cherished the time she spent with her family, grandsons and friends.
Evelyn passed away Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care Center in Glencoe, at the age of 97 years.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Joyce Wiederich and her husband, Henry of Brownton; grandchildren, Roger Wiederich of Bron-wton, Elroy Wiederich of Brownton; brother, Warren Crackel and his wife, Jan of Willmar; brothers-in-law, Earl Hutchinson of Bemidji, Gene Borstner and his wife, Shirley of Mora; sisters-in-law, Mytra Crackel of Brainerd, Mayne Crackel of Monticello, Shirley Bornta of Mora; nephews, Everett Olson of Colorado; many nieces, nephews and cous-ins and other relatives and friends.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, Elroy and Anna Crackel; first husband, Gaylord Olson; second husband, Ike Borstner; brothers, Herbert Crackel, Wilbur Crackel, Leroy Crackel and Lynn Crackel; sisters, Kathryn Mantyla and her husband, Fritz, Eleanor Synstad and her husband, Les and Christine Hutchinson; sisters-in-law, Ruth Crackel, and Marisa Crackel.
Graveside service: Thursday, Aug. 15, at Beth-lehem Lutheran Cemetery in McKinley Township, Cass County.
