SHOCKLEY DIES OF APOPLEXY STROKE
Pioneer of Jefferson Township Expires Following Attack.
WAS WELL KNOWN MAN.

J. A. Shockley, one of the well known residents of the Kempton community died suddenly Monday morning at the home of his son, Verrie Shockley at 10:30 o'clock, his death being due to an attack of apoplexy. While not in rugged health Mr. Shockley or as he was most familiarly known to his many friends "Uncle Jackie" Shockley was in his usual health and was out in the barn yard at the home, looking after some chores when stricken and fell. He and his granddaughter, Dorris Shockley had attended Children's exercises Sunday night at the Methodist church in Kempton and he had enjoyed the program.
Last week Mr. Shockley suffered a severe attack of indigestion and was ill for a couple of days, but had recovered from that trouble, but complained some of his head hurting him. The Shockley farm is located one and one half miles southwest of Kempton.
Mr. Shockley was born on what is known as the Shortle farm near Goldsmith, Feb. 3, 1852 and was the son of Daniel and Jamima Shockley. He was married in 1875 to Miss Lue Ellen Rector, who died about twenty years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Shockley went to Kansas after their marriage and located on a farm there and remained about 20 years when they returned to the Kempton vicinity. Only one son, Verrie Shockley, survives their union. Other children were deceased. He is also survived by one granddaughter, Dorris Shockley, the two being almost constant companions and by one sister, Mrs. Sarah Bristow, of Gary and a brother, George Shockley of Kempton. A sister, Mrs. Arsetta Hollowell and two brothers, the late John Shockley and Amie Shockley being deceased. Mr. Shockley was one of the highly respected citizens of the country and was a good neighbor and friend, and honest in all his dealings. While living in Kansas he united with the Adventist church and never changed his membership after returning to Kempton. Be he attended the services at the Christian church regularly and contributed liberally in its support.
No funeral arrangements have been completed.
