The Grootonk family was in a major car accident when a street car hit their car and drug them 225 feet in March of 1937. The accident had occurred on Mission BLVD in California.
Matilda he and wife Ygnacia's daughter passed away a little after the accident took place. She was only 9 years old. William V. Grootonk Sr. himself was suffering from Spinal Cord injuries and passed away not long after her. His son William V. Grootonk Jr. incurred a fracture skull (per newspaper article). William Jr. was only 10 years at the time of the accident.

NOTE: The newspaper spelled my great grandmother's name wrong; it is not Ignacio it Ygnacia.
