Eunice Lyman was born in New Mexico in 1916.. By 1920 her family was living in her mother's home state.
US Census 1920 South Dakota, Scovil, Jones County lists: Lewellyn D. Lyman 21, born OH, Adaline Lyman 23, SD, and 3 children: Lyn Jr. 7, born 1912, Montana, Jane Hope Lyman 5, born 1914, NM & Eunice F misspelled as 'Unice T" 3, born 1916, NM.
On Dec 15, 1939, Eunice married Roy Dunham in California. They moved to Avenal where they joined his sister Doris and husband 'Pat' Davis and Pat's brother Vernon & wife Grace Davis in building and operated a Putt-Putt golf course. They also helped at Pat's business venture building a drink stand at the corner of Rt 41 & 33 crossroads, 10 miles SSE of town. The three couplea also enjoyed fishing and picnicking together.
When Roy's sisters moved to Lake County, California, Roy also moved his family to Lakeport. There Roy and Eunice owned and operated Lake Cyclery and Lake Hobby, a bicycle and craft shop.
The Dunham siblings (Roy & his sisters and spouses) would gather at least once a week, have planned pot luck supper and play cards. The bunch belonged to area square dance clubs, fished and enjoyed life as a very close knit family.
After Roy died in 1985, Eunice remained in the community sharing her home with granddaughter Eunice. She was a delightful woman with a sense of humor. A true highlight of hers was getting together at outings and gatherings with a group of other women named Eunice.
She died on Nov. 4, 1999 at the age of 83; survived by adopted son Lynn and three grandchildren.
