After an illness of two weeks, suffering with a complication of diseases, Nathan Hammel died Monday afternoon at St. Elizabeth hospital. He was brought to the institution only Tuesday morning from his home in Stockwell. Mr. Hammel was 72 years old September 12 and had been a resident of Stockwell for a great many years. He was a member of the eighty-sixth Indiana Infantry during the civil war and had an excellent record as a soldier. Mr. Hammel was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic and was a man of sterling character. He was a carpenter and had a wide acquaintance in Lauramie township. A widow and the following children survives. Frank N. Hammel., of this city; Joseph G. Hammel, of Clarks Hill, and Mrs. Lee Morrison and Miss Bessie Hammel, of Stockwell. The remains were taken to Stockwell Tuesday, and the funeral was held from the Methodist church in Stockwell Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock. Interment in the Concord cemetery.
