Catherine "Kate" McKell was the granddaughter of Elizabeth "Besty" Bell McKell and the sister of Nancy McKell (1841 – 1868), James McKell (1844–), Mary McKell (1847–), Hugh Montgomery McKell (1850–1851), Margaret "Maggie" McKell (1852–1872) and David McKell, Jr. (1853 – 1890).

Her parents, David & Elizabeth Jean [Nason] McKell were part of the founding group of Scotch-Irish reformers, who started The Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church were she now lays to rest.
