A Sudden Death.
Thomas P. (sic) Best Dropped Dead Last Evening. One of the Best Known Characters in Northwest Missouri- A Traveling Photographer.
Thomas P. (sic) Best, 50 years old, whose home is in the northwest part of the city, fell dead at the home of L.W. Vawter, No. 621 South Fourth street, about 7 o'clock last night. He was acquainted with Vawter, and went to his house about 6 o'clock last night for a friendly visit. They amused themselves at playing chess. In the third game Best complained of feeling faint and asked permission to lie down. He had no sooner reached the couch than he fell over dead. A physician was sent for, but he pronounced the man dead as soon as he arrived. Best's wife was sent for, and when she saw the dead body of her husband her grief was terrible. She moaned and cried so pitifully that the neighbors and bystanders were moved to tears. A 10-year-old son arrived at the house an hour later, and although his tears fell fast he tried to comfort his mother. Best was probably the most widely known man in Northwest Missouri, with the possible exception of Jim Shackelford of Savannah. He was a photographer, and has traveled all over this portion of the State, working in every town of any size. For many years his home has been in this city, which he made his headquarters, but his picture car and his face were alike familiar to thousands of people in the surrounding counties.
