August Christian Baie, son of Christian and Wilhelmina Von Ohlen Baie, was born in Clinton Township, DeKalb County, April 10, 1865, and died at Hinckley October 4, 1944, at 3:25 p.m. at the age of 79 years, 5 months and 24 days.

He was united in marriage to Minnie Melhorn, January 5, 1888, the couple making their home in Clinton Township, where Mr. Baie was engaged in farming until 17 years ago last spring when he retired to Hinckley. Mr. Baie spent his leisure years in a variety of activities.

Of the six children born to the couple, one daughter, Mildred, preceded the father in death in 1918. There survive him, his wife, three sons, Everett and Clarence in Clinton Township and Marvin at home; two daughters, Mrs. Henry Challand, residing in Squaw Grove Township, and Miss Ester at home; five grandchildren and one great grandchild; two brothers, Henry Baie of Adrian, MO, and Carl Baie of near Waterman; three sisters, Mrs. Henry Morsch and Mrs. C. W. Rimsnider, of Hinckley, and Mrs. E. Noeger, of near Somonauk.

Mr. Baie was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Church, Waterman Lodge No. 728, A. F. & A. M., and was a director of the Sandwich Fair Association, as well as president of the Hinckley Grain Company, in all of which he took an active interest.

Funeral services were held Sunday, October 8.

Assisting Mrs. Nash in the arrangement of flowers were Mrs. Meredith Barker, Mrs. Joe Hartley, Mrs. Leslie Sadoris and Miss Myra Kuter. Wells Fay, Jr., sang two selections, accompanied by Miss Jane Riemensnider.

Pallbearers were Arvid and Henry Baie of Adrian, MO, Vernon Baie, Arden Baie, Melvin Morsch, Orin Rimsnider, Henry Tensen and Barney Anderson.
