Floyd Cockrell was the son of William Clinton Cockrell (1889-1961) and Jessie Fae Shaw (1902-1988). Born in Roger Mills Oklahoma, he was the third of seven children. In Sayre, Oklahoma on September 10, 1940, he married Dorothy Mae Snuggs (1921-2006) the daughter of John Sidney Snuggs Sr (1887-1926) and Flossie Bell Hardison (1894-1964). To this union was born one son & two daughters. When Floyd's sister, Juanita, died, the couple stepped in and helped raise her three year old daughter until her father remarried.

Floyd died in Amarillo, Texas on December 23, 1985 at the age of sixty-five. He was preceded in death by his father, two Juanita Southard and Jennie Lee Cockrell. His wife of 45 years, his son, two daughters, his Mother, and three brothers, William Enscel, Leonard, Wayne Edwin and Darrell Eugene Cockrell, survived him.
