OBIT: Walter B (Joe) Houston, 84, 601 Albert Ave, died at 11:15 a.m. Monday, October 28, 1974 in his home after a long illness. Born July 30, 1890 in Rockton, IL, son of Mr & Mrs William R Houston. Live 82 yrs. in Rockford coming here from Rockton. His first wife Elsie Vay Houston, died in 1930. He married Edith G Portner in Rockford August 31, 1935. Employed as a salesman for Williamson Motor Co. until 1941., later was a real estate salesman, Member of Star in the East Lodge No 166. A.F. and A.M. Survivors include his widow, Edith; a son, Alvin R , Rockford; a granddaughter, Mrs Lyle (Joan) Jackson, Rockford; a great-grandson, Lyle Jacobson Jr., Rockford; 2 great-great-grandsons; a sister, Mrs Vera Briggs, Rockford, several nieces and nephews.
Services at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct 31 in Burpee-Wood Funeral Home, 420 N Main St. with the Rev. Dr O Garfield Beckstrand past of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-8pm Wednesday with Masonic services there at 7:30pm.
