Stockwell, Indiana, Aug. 17 - The entire community of Stockwell was shocked and saddened today as a result of the death of Mrs. S. A. Kennedy at her home here, at 3 o'clock this morning, caused by carbolic acid, taken by the unfortunate woman Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Kennedy was found unconscious on the floor of the drug store which she owned here, about 3 o'clock, Saturday afternoon by William Elliott. She was rushed to her home and every attempt made to save her life, but she was unable to rally from the effects of the poison. Dr. George Thompson, deputized coroner on the case, gave a verdict of death caused by swallowing carbolic acid. Ill health and despondency are perhaps the only causes that can be assigned for the deed. Mrs. Kennedy has been ill for almost a year and a half, and this coupled with the death of her husband, who was killed when his machine was struck by an inter-urban west of the city, about a year and a half ago, and the death of her father, last December, caused her to become despondent. Despite all of her sorrow and sickness, Mrs. Kennedy, up to the time of her death, had put on a cheerful attitude, and was perhaps one of the best known and best liked women in town. Following her recovery from a serious illness at the time of the death of her husband, Mrs. Kennedy took over the drug store here and since that time has been in complete charge of it.
