On January 14, 2013 Antonio "Tony" P. Baca succumbed to his battle with pulmonary disease and its complications. Tony was born in Dwyer, NM at Cooke's Peak on July 5, 1933 to Federico and Eulalia Baca who both preceded him in death in 2003. Tony was a skilled meat cutter, with his early career at Deming Packing Company, where he learned the trade and lent his expertise in both meat cutting and truck driving and his later career at Safeway in Silver City. In "retirement" Tony owned and operated "Old Time Meats" providing custom meat cutting services for both domestic and wild game from his home in Silver City. Some of Tony's most treasured times were those spent sharing life stories with friends and family. Tony had an uncanny ability to remember dates and details that kept listeners at apt attention. Tony is survived by Nora, his devoted wife of 34 years, his daughters, Nancy Baca-Stepan and Joseph of St. Louis, MO and Linda Lara of Aurora, CO, his daughter-in-law, Anita Baca of Bisbee, AZ, seven sisters, Anita Orozco, Dora Hunter and Jim, Manuela Van and Gene, Helen Valenzuela and Lawrence, Rose Bustamante and Dan, Ruth Costales and Ray and Eva Uzueta, one granddaughter, Amy Garcia and Justin Tibbitts, six grandsons Tony Baca and Jennifer and Raymond Baca and Ashley, and Antonio, Samuel Lara, David Lara and Ricardo Lara, eight great-grandchildren, his step-children, in-laws, cousins and friends. Tony is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Francisco P. Baca in 2009 and most recently his son, Antonio R. Baca on December 30, 2012. Services will be held on Friday, January 18, 2013 with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. followed by a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 10:00 a.m. and the Mass of Resurrection at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis Newman Center Parish, 914 W 13th Street, Silver City, New Mexico with Father Mike Williams officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow at Memory Lane Cemetery in Silver City. Serving as Pallbearers will be Tony R. Baca III, Raymond Baca, Charles J. Martinez, Lawrence Valenzuela, Dan Bustamante and Tim Stoughton.
