Edward Mapes, 68, of Haddam was found dead on the roadside near Cuba one and one-half miles north of US36. Death was thr result of a heart attack according to Dr. H.D. Thomas, county corner. Mapes had been walking to Cuba to visit some friends. Mapes lived in the Haddam area all of his life as a farmer.

Edward Mapes, son of Nelson and Teressie Mapes, was born November 13, 1883, on a farm northeast of Cuba, and passed away December 3, 1951, at the age of 68 years and 20 days.

Edward spent much of his life in the community where he was born.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters.

Survivors are his two brothers, William of Broughton, and Wesley of Butte Mont., and two sisters, Emma Hubbard of Cuba and Agnes House of Hutchinson, other relatives and friends.

Services were held at Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart funeral home in Belleville, Rev. James Gray officiated, and interment was in Mill Creek cemetery.
