His parents were Helge and Adelaide (Knutson) Sanderson. They emigrated to America in 1848, when Mr. Sanderson was 7 years old, their objective point being La Salle county, where they had relatives who had preceded them. From Milwaukee the family pursued their way to La Salle county on foot, being four weeks in making the trip. There were six children in the family when they came to America, namely; S. H. and Knut Sanderson, now both deceased, their sister, Mrs. Lavina Kittelson, deceased, Margaret, who remained with her brother on the farm until her death in 1893, and Mrs. Farley, also deceased. In 1891, Mr. Sanderson retired from farming and moved to Leland where he engaged in business. His father passed away Sept. 28, 1898. Mr. S., besides making a large ... mother lived at the old homestead with her son until her death in 1887 having been born in 1803. Well known in Leland and vicinity, having taken an active part in all the most important commercial enterprises of the community. He has often lent a helping hand to deserving person always without ostentation. When the present large and spacious Lutheran church edifice in Leland was built in 1895, Mr. S., besides making a large contribution, supervised the work of building and did a great deal of the work himself. With him a notable man among us has passed away. He had no immediate family, never having been married, but he is survived by a large number of relatives, a number of whom came from Lee county and other points to attend the funeral. The services were held Monday, March 13, from the home to the church in Leland at 1:30 p.m. and the remains were interred at the Baker cemetery where his parents and sisters have been laid to rest.
