Washington Tipton Conner, brother to Lewis Conner and son of William and Sarah Conner. Washington Tipton Conner's life came to an end Wednesday, July 19, 1911. His death while not unexpected was a shock to our people. Although Mr. Conner was passed three score and ten, being at the time of his death 79 years, two months and 24 days of age, up until a short time before his death, he was engaged in active business, looking after his interests with great zeal that would have put many a younger man to shame. He was a man of sterling qualities, of head and heart, and his business associates, friends and neighbors respected and admired him for the qualities and showed their esteem and love for him by gathering at his late home on Thursday to pay their last respects and tribute to his memory.

The following is a portion of W. T. Conner's actual obituary:

Washington T. Conner was born in Cass County, Indiana, April 25, 1832. When three years of age he lost his mother and a year later his father passed away. He was reared on a farm, but later learned the shoemaker's trade. He first came to Iowa, when a young man of 21. He returned to his old home later and not until 1855 did he become a present resident of Iowa. At that he entered 100 acres of land for which he paid the Government $1.25 per acre. From that time on until 1894, he continued in the stock raising and farming business, gathering quite a competency. In 1894, he came to Guthrie Center, where he has since made his home. He was one of the incorporators of the Farmer's Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Adair and Guthrie County, and for a time was it's president. He grew up as it were with Guthrie County and was always a moving spirit in its development.

On the 30th of June, 1857, Mr. Conner was joined in marriage to Miss Annie K.
Knight, also of Indiana. Unto this union were born ten children, six of whom with the aged wife and mother survive him. The children living are Mrs. J. B. Leach of Beaver City, Iowa, Mrs. J. E. Boot of this county, Mrs. J. D. Lonsdale of Dale, Oscar Conner of North Dakota, Mrs. Andrew Larson, of this county and Miss Alma Conner at home. He also leaves a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
