He took over the operation of his father's farm in Kent, CT when he was a fairly young man. After both his parents died in the mid 1860's, he sold the Kent farm, moved to Washington, CT (not far) and operated a prosperous farm there for the rest of his life.
David married Susan M. Gilbert of Kent and they had three children, but only one lived beyond childhood. His daughter, Francis Elizabeth Cole took over the running of the farm when David reached his 80's.
David is buried at the Cole plot in St. Andrews Episcopal Church Cemetery in the village of Kent, CT.
