Mr. Emery was born August 31, 1928 in Quincy, a son of Thomas Shelling and Gladys Loraine Littleton Emery. He attended Green Street School near Meyer. He served six years in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1957 and was a combat veteran of Korea. He worked for the Civil Service as a maintenance engineer in California until 1971 when he and his wife made their home in the state of Washington.
Surviving are his wife, the former Helen Dearsmith; seven brothers, Clifford J. of Loraine, Forrest Dale of Mendon, Marion M. of Ewing, Mo., Kenneth L. of Canton, Jimmie D. of East Peoria, Donald L. of Quincy, and Ronald L. of Sanford, Mi.; a sister, Mrs. Frank (Betty) Berhorst of Canton, Mo., and several nieces and nephews.
Family services were held at graveside in Mendon Cemetery on March 25, 1989. Rev. Mark Chinnis of the Mendon Congregational Church officiated. A United States flag was presented to the family on behalf of his service to his country.
