Born August 25, 1892 near Melrose, IA, one of twelve children of Anistasia* (1845 - 1941) and Mary Frances (Ciskey) Scieszinski (1853 - 1943).

On May 9, 1916 at St. Patrick's Church, Georgetown, IA Dan married Mary Agnes Comer (1895 - 1983), daughter of John Joseph Comer (1859 - 1942) and Mary Agnes (Collins) Comer (1864 - 1946).

Dan and Mary were the parents of four children: James Daniel Scieszinski (1917 - 1979), Mary Madonna "Donna" (Scieszinski) Benson (1919 - 2013), John Joseph "Jack" Scieszinski (1923 - 2013) and Elizabeth Regina "Betty" (Scieszinski) Conway; grandparents of fourteen (six granddaughters and eight grandsons); and great- grandparents of twenty (eight great-granddaughters and twelve great-grandsons). Nephew John Arthur Scieszinski (1908 – 1982), eldest child of John Joseph (1884 – 1918) and Teresa (Foley) Scieszinski (1884 – 1916), also lived in Dan and Mary's Monroe County home for a time after first living with his grandparents after the death of his father in 1918.

Dan farmed near Melrose, IA and operated a gas station in Albia, IA before relocating his family to Davenport, IA in 1942. In the Quad Cities Dan worked as an elevator operator for John Deere Plow Works in Moline, IL, retiring in 1960. Dan will be remembered for his beautiful flowers, large garden, and love of playing euchre while smoking cigars. Dan passed away of a heart attack at home at the age of eighty-two after working in the garden and eating lunch.

Tuesday morning Dan Scieszinski and Miss Mary Comer of Georgetown were united in marriage, Rev. P.J. Murphy celebrating the nuptial mass and performing the ceremony. Miss Anna Comer acted as bridesmaid. Ed Scieszinski served as best man. After the ceremony the guests were entertained to a sumptuous dinner at her parent's home. The bridal couple will at once begin housekeeping on a farm north of town owned by the groom. They have the good wishes of hosts of friends.

Scieszinski Rites Saturday

Funeral services for a former Monroe County resident, Daniel James Scieszinski, 83, of Davenport, will be held Saturday. He died Wednesday afternoon at his home of an apparent heart attack. The services will be held at Halligan’s Funeral Home, with burial to be in a Davenport cemetery.

Scieszinski was born in Coal Valley, ILL.* on August 25, 1891*. He married Mary Comer in Georgetown on May 9, 1916.

Scieszinski was a Monroe County resident for 50 years. He had been a resident of Davenport for the past 32 years. He was a retired employee of the John Deere Moline Works.

Surviving are two sons, James of Davenport and Jack of Albia; two daughters, Mrs. Donna (Ray) Benson of Davenport and Mrs. Betty (Edward) Conway of Newburg, Ind.; one brother, Edward of Janesville, Wis.; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Five brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.*
