Richard was born on December 31, 1933, in Minot, ND, to Joy Anglo Hastings and Lillian Gladys Larson Hanson. Richard had served in the United States Army. On January 11, 1958, he married Dorothy May Siegler in Spring Lake Park, MN. This union was blessed with three children. He was self-employed as owner and operator of Liberty Medical Services Inc. and Liberty Veterinarian Medical Services Inc. On August 7, 1986, Richard received a heart transplant at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Richard is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Hanson of Urbandale; son, Ronald Hanson of Des Moines; daughter, Rhonda (Gary) Busch of Des Moines; son, Raymond Hanson of Urbandale; four sisters, Delores Feldman of Diamond Springs, CA, Joyce Carter of Maquoketa, IA, Koreen (Don Paulson) Gerdin of Cambridge, MN and JoAnne (Delbert) Heckenliable of Lodi, CA; two half brothers, Lynn and Thomas Hanson; seven grandchildren, Jordan, Jaime, Eric, Amanda, Michael, Ashley and Jennifer; two great-grandchildren, Carter and Rylie; and a host of many nieces and nephews. Richard was preceeded in death by his parents; one sister, Maysil Hanson; three brothers, Carl, Dale and Gerald Hanson and one half brother Kenneth.
