Edward was born in Yough Glade, now Oakland, Garret Co. MD. He is the father of the Original writer(Frank McCarty) of this McCarty History. Edward received an Academical education, going first to the Alleghany Aacdemy at Cumberland MD. then to the Northwest Virginis Conference in 1844, where he taught for several years. He joined the M.E. Church in 1844 under the Ministery of Rev. Wm. Sauck of Pittsburg Conference. Edward was the first ordained to preach in 1850 by the Rev Wm. Semon of the W VA Conference, he was ordained a Deacon Jun 14 1854, by Bish Scott at Fairmont, VA Edward was ordained as Elder June 5 1856 by Bishop Edward Ames at Wheeling W VA. Edward was stationed at Glenville Gilmore Co, Brandonville, West Libery, and Fetterman. Edward was superanuated (retired) in 1857 ans came to Lowa the same year on the 16th of May, where he lived out his life, and was buried at Evergreen Cemetery, at Fairfield, Iowa.(Great-greatgrandaughter Judy and husband Darrel, placed headstone on unmarked grave site)
