Julia was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Her family moved to Fairfield, Iowa in Jefferson County on May 18, 1857. Julia grew to womanhood there, taught school in the same county from 1873 to 1877. On March 14, 1878 Julia married David McKee, they lived on a farm in Jefferson County until October 1902 when they moved to Port Angeles, Washington. They then moved to Seattle in May 1915. In 1922 Julia's husband went to reside in the Old Soldiers Home in Retsil, Washington. Julia joined him there in 1923, they lived there till they died. Julia died June 3, 1934, she was 79 yrs old. She was buried beside David in the "Veterans Home Cemetery" in Retsil, Washington.
