May de Haas Schnure (1851 to May 20, 1940) was a direct descendant of Gen. Philip de Haas, a Dutchman who fought in the American Revolutionary War

She accompanied her husband, the Rev. Charles Schnure, when he went to India in 1880 to serve as a Lutheran missionary. After their return from India in 1891 and the death of her husband in 1892, she taught in the New York City public schools until her retirement in 1930.
