He was mustered out 5 January 1864.
After the war worked as a Kentucky State Prison Guard and eventually moved his family to Lewis Co., Kentucky where he raised horses and farmed. In 1898 he raised a company from Lewis Co., Ky. and served in Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders in the Spanish-American War.
