John Wetzel Conner, 81, of 298 Main Street, Eagle Rock, Va. (Glen Wilton), died, Friday, October 8, 2004 at his residence.
He was born on April 14, 1923 in Rockbridge County, a son of the late John William and Easter Coffey Conner.
Mr. Conner was a retired foreman from H. O. Canfield. He was a member of Oak Hill Bible Church, Clifton Forge and was a Veteran of the U. S. Army having served his country in Korea.
He is survived by three daughters, Mary Frances Harper-Smith and Jerry Lee Conner Dunbar both of Glen Wilton, and Rose C. Brown of Illinois; five sisters, Thelma Nicely and Anna Conner both of Selma, Helen Ayres and Bessie Hays both of Lexington, and Betty Smith of Roanoke; six grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and special friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Stanley Conner in 1998; three sons, Billy Gene Conner, John Richard Conner and Floyd Eugene Conner and three brothers, William, James and Clayton Conner.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 11, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. from the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home with the Reverend Roger Bush officiating. Interment will follow in the Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Pallbearers will be selected from friends attending the service. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 P.M. at Nicely Funeral Home.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, P.O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, Va. 24422.
