Thomas married Martha Scarrow Oct 12, 1836 in St. Mary's Parish, Ely, Cambridgeshire, England. They had nine children.

Thomas worked in the Almshouse on St. Mary's Street in Ely for over 30 years. He took care of the poor and needy who lived at the Almshouse. This occupation was listed in the 1851 census, and 1881 census.

In his old age, he became a resident there, and this is where he died. It is listed as his death place on the 1881 death record. The England & Wales Death Index of Oct-Dec 1881 states Thomas died in the Almshouse at Ely, Cambridgeshire, England of heart disease/dropsy.


In Aug 1883, at the age of 71, Martha immigrated to Canada on the ship "Parisian". Her granddaughter, 4 yr old Lizzie Cheville traveled with her. Lizzie was Mary's daughter. By 1885 Martha moved to the USA, living with her son William in Ames, Iowa.
