Age 86, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2008 in the evening at Heritage Manor in Dwight, IL. He was born on March 23, 1922 to Albert and Anna (nee Rohr) Doerfler. After his mother's death on his first birthday, he was raised by his wonderful aunt and uncle; Fidel and Minnie Befort. He received his education in Kansas. In September 1942, he enlisted in the Navy based with stag one satfor where he was an aviation mechanic. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

On May 5, 1947 he married Rose Staab in Catherine, KS. While in Kansas he was employed for Service Pipeline.

In 1961, the family moved to Morris, IL where he was employed with Sinclair Pipe Line in Mazon, IL.

In 1971 he transferred to Highland, IN. At the time of his retirement, in 1985, he was a district supervisor for Atlantic Richfield Co.

In 1990 he and his wife moved back to Morris, IL to be near their family. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, third and fourth degree Knight of Columbus where for several years he served as Grand Knight and then as district deputy. He was also a member of the American Legion in Morris, and the Lions Club in Highland, IN.

He is survived by his wife, Rose; daughter, D'Nelle (Gary) Lyons of Richardson, TX; one son, Bill (Terry) Doerfler of Morris; two grandsons, Mark and Nick Doerfler of Morris; and three granddaughters, Stephanie (Joel) Becker, Ashley (Grant) Fisher, and Amber Lyons, all of Austin, TX; two sisters, Marcella Pfannenstiel and Henrietta Unrien of Hays; two brothers, Gerald (Betty) Befort of Hays, KS, Glenn (Emily) Befort of Georgetown, TX; special nephews, Richard (Kathy) Doerfler, of Overland Park, KS, Charles (Cindy) Doerfler of Hays, KS; and niece, Carolyn (Irvin) Jacobs of Hays, KS; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Alfred and Eugene Doerfler; and one sister, Minnie Zimmerman.

Funeral services for Alvin Doerfler will be Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 9:15 from the funeral home chapel to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Fr. Richard Smith officiating. Interment Mt. Carmel Cemetery where full Military Honors accorded by the Morris American Legion. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Immaculate Conception Church Building Fund, Heritage Manor Activity Fund or OSF Hospice of Pontiac. Visitation Monday from 3-7 p.m. at:
