While Dave was working as a mechanic for Otis Elevator Co. in the Capitol Building, Lansing, Mich. he fell down the elevator shaft. The resulting injuries included "internal injuries", fractured right hip, concussion of brain. Lansing fireman worked over him with the inhalator before he was taken to St. Lawrence Hospital.
He died in St. Lawrence Hospital on 27 Mar. 1936.
He was transported by train to Brazil, Ind. accompanied by his brother John. Burial in Clearview Cemetery on his 36th birthday, 31 Mar. 1936.
Nov.1992 The Capitol Building was refriberished and rededicated. Part of the ceremonies was the dedication of a plaque to the three men who lost their lives while working on the building. One was DAVID JOHN ALTMAN. Attending the ceremonies was Dick & Joyce Altman, Sandra & Jayson Patchett, Aunt June and Jim Blair.
