Blanche Hazel Eddleston, 103, died June 11, 2002, in Payson. She was born June 13, 1898, in Sioux City, Iowa.
She married Leo W. Downey in 1915 and they moved to Los Angeles and then to Long Beach in 1920. She was very active in the Eastern Star, which she joined in 1929. She became Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in 1946. She was a Star since 1929. She joined the Daughters of the Nile in Long Beach in 1970. She was secretary of Jobs Daughters Bethel #6 for three years.
After Leo Downey died, she became a secretary for the Selective Service and then became a teacher at Wilson High School in Long Beach, where she taught applied salesmanship.
She married James Eddleston in 1948 and then moved to Payson in 1976. She joined the Payson Nile Club and was its president in 1980.
Survivors include a daughter, Evelyn Copp of Payson; two grandsons, Douglas Copp of Sedona, and Edmond Copp of Scottsdale; five great-grandchildren, Jessica, Jacqueline, Kevin, David and Rebecca Copp; many nieces and nephews.
A memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15 at Messinger Payson Funeral Home, 302 W. Aero Drive in Payson. Inurnment will be at a later date in Forest Lawn Sunny Side Memorial Park in Long Beach, Calif.
