Vera Gurr, age 87 of Vernal, Utah passed away February 21, 2013 at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.

She was born September 5, 1925 in Vernal, the ninth of ten children born to George Albert and Alice Victoria White Gurr.

Vera graduated from Uintah High School in 1944.

She worked at the Basin Laundry and retired from Mountain Bell as a telephone operator.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in the M.I.A. for 17 years, as a visiting teaching supervisor, a primary teacher for 2 years and as drama director for 3 years.

She earned her Golden Gleaners achievement award in the Young Womens program, and was an avid Jazz fan.

Vera is survived by her sisters; Lola Peterson and Madge Jackson, sister-in-law; Bula Gurr and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and siblings; Lawrence Gurr, Myrtle Murray, Ella Shiner Allen, Thelma Scott, Bernice Jackson, Earl Gurr, and Freda Abplanalp.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 25, 2013 with viewings Sunday evening from 6-8 at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary and 1 hour prior to services at the chapel.

Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park under the care and direction of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
