Jens "James" Christian Sorensen & Ane "Annie" Madsen Sorensen had 13 children, 10 who survived to adulthood. George was the 7th of the 10 children. He was born SW of Loup City at the Carr farm on Cobb Creek.

He became an electrical engineer for Consumers Power & Light with responsibilities that included management of the hydro-electric power plant near Boelus, NE.

On August 5, 1925 he married Emma Pedersen in Dannebrog, NE. Earlier that year George's brother William "Bill" married Erma Pedersen, Emma's sister.
