Fred Babel, 80, 523 West Ninth street, passed away January 1st at his home after a long illness. Mr. Babel was a resident of Hall county 43 years and had lived in Grand Island for the past 18 years.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Babel, the departed was born at Washington, D. C., Oct. 17, 1856, having attained the age of 80 years, 2 months and 14 days at the time of his death. His early days were spent in Ohio. In 1881 at Zanesville, Ohio, he was united in marriage to Elvira Jane Mitchell, to which union seven children were born. A son, Charles, preceded him in death in 1925.
Surviving to mourn his passing besides his widow are three daughters, Mrs. J. E. Hoye, of Wood River; Mrs. Wm. Highland, of Jordon, Mont., and Mrs. H. K. Cates of this city, and three sons, R. W. Babel, of Port Orford, Ore.; Fred E., of this city, and W. W. of Denver. Funeral services were held Jan. 3 at the Geddes Funeral Home. Burial was in the family plot in the Grand Island cemetery.
