Rites Sunday For Garfield BALDWIN

Death came early this morning to Garfield BALDWIN, well known retired farmer and stockman, who spent most of his life in the Birmingham community.

He passed away about 1 a.m. today in the Jefferson County hospital after a serious illness of two days.

Last rites will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Westo
n Behner funeral home with the Rev. D. C. Howse in charge. Burial will be in the Maple Hill cemetery near Birmingham.

Garfield BALDWIN, 75, was born March 28, 1881, at Birmingham, the son of the late Joseph and Esther BENNET (sic) BALDWIN. He was united in marriage to Mayme LAWSON on December 12, 1900, at Birmingham. She passed away May 17, 1951.

He was married to Florence VAN AMSTEL on July 3, 1952, at Fairfield (sic. was Van Amstel a previous married name for her ?? Marriage date conflicts with what is listed in Florence's obituary so clarification is needed). She survives.

Mr. BALDWIN spent practically his entire life in the Birmingham community until he moved to the Fairfield community in 1947. The family home is about a half mile southwest of Fairfield on the Libertyville road. He was a member of the Bethel Methodist church near Birmingham.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Robert A. KESSEL, Birmingham; a sister, Mrs. Grace JOHNSTON, Birmingham; two grandchildren and a step-son, James NORDSTROM, Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, one son, three brothers and four sisters.
