The 1880 Census lists them as born in NY and farming residents of Bloomfield, Walworth, Wisconsin. They have two grown children, Eliza and Charlie, living with them but they had ten children all together. At least four of the children died as babies or young children. The children were either born in Richmond, McHenry, IL or McHenry, McHenry, IL.

They had a daughter named Justine Mary (13 Feb 1853 - June 1953) who married James Wallace Coquillette. Justine and James had nine children.

Abel's brother, Charles, is often cited as a founder of Richmond [which he called, Montelona], McHenry, Illinois. It is said that he built the first house (of logs, 20 x 24') in the village itself (Wm A McConnell built his earlier but outside the Village limits.)
