MISS PERRY, 85, DIES; TEACHER HALF CENTURY
    --------------------------
Spent 53 Years as Instructor in City Schools. Was Active as Sabbath Study Leader
    --------------------------
Miss Leonore Perry, 85, who devoted 53 years of her life to teaching in the city public school, died early this mottling at her home, 33 West Jackson street, city, after an illness of one week.
Retired since 1926, she began her career as a teacher here when Wilkes-Barre had three separate school districts each governed by its own board of directors.
When the three districts were consolidated into one, in 1890, Miss Perry was assigned to the present Strauss grade school on South Washington street, then called Central school. In 1895 she was transferred to the Franklin street grade school where she taught until 1915. She was assigned then to the Union street grade school and taught there until her retirement.
                Also Church Teacher
Devoted to her church, Miss Perry served the First Methodist as a teacher in its Sunday school throughout her adult life and until stricken ill a week ago.
She was a charter member of her church's Sunday school and helped to organize and taught for many years in the Sunday school of Derr Memorial Church.
Through her work as a teacher in church and public school, Miss Perry influenced the development of the minds and character of thousands of residents in this city.
Her career as a public school teacher began in the era when education in the elementary and high schools were devoted to little less than the fundamental "Three R's" and continued into the period when this city's educational standards and schools had reached a standard ranking with the best in the nation.
Miss Perry was born in Port Clinton, Schuylkill county, the daughter of the late J. R. and Hannah Boyer Perry. She was nine years old when the family moved to this city and she spent the remaining 76 years of her life here.
Surviving are a brother, Lycus D. Perry, city; two sisters, Miss Venus Perry, city, and Mrs. C. M. Schreiner, Scranton; also several nephews and nieces.
