      DEATH CLAIMS GRAND OLD MAN
    --------------------------
J. R. Perry Passes Away at His Home in This City at Age of 92
    --------------------------
    J. R. Perry, aged 92, one of Wilkes-Barre's grand old men, passed away at his home, 33 West Jackson street, early this morning. He had been ill for several months and a few days ago his condition became critical.
Mr. Perry was well known throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania, and had been among the most intellectual in the community. He had been a contributor to the Record for nearly fifty years, writing on many and varied topics. He was an accomplished musician and had a hobby of constructing violins for his own private use. Lately he interested himself in spiritualism and was an ardent exponent of the doctrine of the immortality of the soul.
He started out in business selling organs and finally with the increased popularity of the piano became a dealer in those instruments. For many years he conducted a piano factory at North Main and Kulp streets and later started a piano store on South Main street, first as J. R. Perry & Sons and then as Perry Brothers, selling to Ludwig & Company in 1902.
Mr. Perry was born in a small town in Berks County on January 13, 1828 and married Miss Hannah Boyer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Boyer of Port Clinton, Pa., at the age of twenty.
He is survived by one brother, D. W. Perry of Harrisburg, and by the following children: S. R. Perry, of Forty Fort: L. D. Perry, of New Rochelle, N. Y.; Mrs. C. M. Shrine, of Scranton; Miss Venus Perry and Miss Leonora Perry at home. Funeral announcement will be made later.
