Mrs. Matilda Morton a pioneer woman has
been in failing health for the past month
passed away on April 30, 1936 at 5:45
p.m. at the age of 88 years and 4 months.
Matilda Beavers was born on December
30, 1847 in Bryan, Ohio and was the
daughter of George W. and Martha
Beavers. Her girlhood was spent at her
home in Ohio and on February 25, 1872
she was married to Alonzo Morton. Two
children were born in Ohio, then Mr. and
Mrs. Morton came to Kansas in April, 1878
locating in Frankfort, Kansas and have
been residing in and near Frankfort since
that time.
Mrs. Morton was a home loving person.
She lived here in the early days and under-
went many hardships like all pioneers,
and no task was to hard for her to do and
do well. She joined the United Brethren
Church after her marriage and remained
true to her Lord.
Mrs. Morton was the mother of eleven
children, three dying in infancy, her
husband, son, Frank and daughter, Mrs.
Bertha Hendricks preceded her in death.
Leaving to mourn her passing Mrs. Cora
VanNortwick, Portland, Oregon, Mrs. Ace
VanNortwick, Mrs. Will Jackson, Charles
Morton and Fred Morton, Frankfort,Kansas
and Everest Morton, Kansas City, Missouri.
one sister Mrs. Lon Nisley; two brothers,
George Beavers and Tom Beavers, all of
Kunkle, Ohio; twenty grandchildren and
19 great-grandchildren, several nieces and
nephews and many friends.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist
Church in Frankfort on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
Burial was in the Frankfort Cemetery,
Frankfort, Kansas.
