Roy Scully
Fertile, Minnesota --- Roy R. Scully, 80, Fertile, formerly of Gentilly, Minnesota, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001 at home.
Roy R. Scully was born Nov. 5, 1921, the son of Daniel and Azilda (Lance) Scully, in Gentilly, where he grew up and attended school. He worked on the farm and for Ray Fuller at Gentilly in the hay business. He married Mertle Sterger on May 20, 1958, in Dubuque, Iowa. They lived and farmed near Gentilly. He also did construction work in the area. In 1965, he began working for the Sisters of Mount St. Benedict, Crookston. In 1966, they moved into Gentilly. He drove a Beet truck for Ray Grove, Crookston, during harvest time. He retired from the maintenance department of Mount St. Benedict's in 1986. He worked for Bill Langlois on his farm near Gentilly. In 1996, they move to Fertile.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Danny (Josita) Duguette, Gentilly, and Dale (Roxanne) Scully and Duane Scully all of Salisbury. North Carolina; daughters Karen (John) Lawson, Salisbury, Kathyrn (Keith) Swenson, Fertile, and Korene (Steve) Maynard, Statesville, North Carolina; 24 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucile Schiller, Yakima, Washington, and Ursula Ueland, St. Paul; and sister-in-law Ellen Scully, Margaret Scully and Sigrid Scully all of Yakima.
He was preceded in death by two great-grandsons; sisters Genevieve Scully, Gladys Chouinard, and Viola Clement; and brothers Robert, Raymond and Ignatius "Pete."
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, St. Peter's Catholic Church, Gentilly.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, with 7 p.m. prayer service, Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston and one hour before services in the church.
