Karl was adopted by Arthur and Florence (Hanson) Jacobson of Amidon, North Dakota, on April 8, 1930. At the time of the adoption, they changed his name to Vernon Clarence Jacobson. Art and Florence were loving parents, giving Vern everything a child and young man could want or need. He was raised west of Amidon and attended the Bullion View Grade School and Bowman High School.
Vern married Marjorie Oldis on August 22, 1953, at Mound Church, North Dakota; they had four children. They lived, worked, and raised their family on the ranch his adoptive parents established. He was active in the ranching community and belonged to the Little Missouri Grazing Association and the Elks Club. Vern was skilled at fixing broken or damaged items and repairing equipment. He enjoyed that type of work as well as the other work required to run a ranch.
He was reunited with his biological siblings in the late 1950s. The siblings developed deep bonds and remained in contact throughout the rest of their lives, attending family events and visiting each other regularly.
After retiring from ranching, Vern and Marge moved to Dickson, ND. He died Sunday, July 24, 2005, at St. Benedict's Health Center in Dickinson of complications related to diabetes.
He was survived by his wife, four children, three grandchildren, two sisters, and one brother. He was predeceased by his birth parents, his adoptive parents, five siblings, and two grandsons.
