Rev. John L Pigg Sr., Age 79 of Tulsa, Okla., formerly of Joplin, passed away at 6:02 pm Saturday, at his home, after a long illness.
Born December 21, 1922 in Galena, Kansas, he ws the son of the late John LeRoy Pigg and Maude Mae Merrill, and had lived in Joplin from 1954 until moving to Tulsa in 1998. For several years, he was a maintenance supervisor with Eagle Picher Industries, Inc., and was a cabinetmaker and carpenter in Joplin. Ordained in Christian Ministry in 1952, he founded and ministered in Cathedral Assembly from 1964 until 1987. He pastored Southview Assembly of God in Joplin, Mo from 1991 until retiring in 1996. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran and a member of Rober S Thurman American Legion Post No. 13.
On February 8, 1942, he married Betty Jean Shaeffer in Joplin. She Survives.
Additional survivors include three sons, Gary L Pigg, Michael L Tudor and John L Pigg, Jr., all of Joplin, MO, two daughters, Karen McGinthia of Fort Smith, Ark., and Patricia Musgrove of Tulsa; two sisters Betty Karr of Baxter Springs, Kansas, and Dorothy Shaw of Joplin; seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, A granddaughter, Michelle Sapp, preceded him death.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Parker Mortuary with Rev. Jimmie Hinson and Rev. Sandy Shaw officiating. Interment will at Osborne Memorial Cemetery with military rites conducted by Robert S Thurman American Legion Post No. 13. Grandsons serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Pigg, Gary Musgrove, James McGinthia, Gary Smith, Tim Cothran and Bobby McDaniel. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 pm Wednesday. at the mortuary.
