Byron Gerald Brandau was born February 8, 1921 in the Town of Wells to Alvina (Gajewski) and Ernest Brandau. Byron was called Home on November 14, 2012 at the age of 91 years, 9 months and 6 days. Byron married Beverly Arlene Sletten on September 28, 1946.

Byron enjoyed a long life and was blessed with many gifts particularly those of servitude. Byron was a 60+ year member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He served as head usher at Trinity for many years and always helped wherever needed. Byron also served his community as a member of the Sparta Lions Club. Byron was a hard worker and worked many jobs including farming, operating a Surge Milk Machine business, and employment at Schlaver Seed Farms and the Sparta Co-op Exchange just to name a few. Byron's favorite role; however, was that of Counselor at the former Wisconsin Child Care Center. Byron's passion was helping troubled youth. He believed there was no such thing as a bad kid.

Byron enjoyed many hobbies including hunting, fishing, animals of almost any kind, his BMW Motorcycle, traveling in his Winnebago Van, and in his younger years his Hudson Hornet and 31 Chevy Coupe. First and foremost, Byron loved any activity involving his granddaughters!

Byron and Beverly were blessed with two daughters, Susan (Richard) Haville of Owatonna, MN and Shirley (Kevin) Hobson of Sparta, WI; four granddaughters, Jennifer (Scott) Morani of Owatonna, MN, Joanna (Chad) Goltzman of Bloomington, MN, Amanda Hobson of Oshkosh, WI, and Rebecca Hobson of Sparta, WI.; one precious great-granddaughter, Ariel Morani of Owatonna, MN; and honorary granddaughter, Stephanie Chan of Minneapolis, MN. In addition to his wife, daughters, granddaughters, and great granddaughter, Byron is also survived by one sister, Dorothy Waterman of Eau Claire, WI; three brothers -in law, Vernon Sletten, Virgil (MaryLou) Sletten, Duane (Violet) Sletten as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Byron was preceded in death by his parents; Alvina and Ernest Brandau; his in-laws Hilda and Alf Sletten; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Hazel Brandau, Ardith (Orland) Sletten, Leora (Wallace) Daniels, Eunice (Bill) Downin, Clifford Miller, and William Waterman; three nephews, Billy Downin, Darrell Sletten, Daniel Miller; and one niece, Elaine Miller.
